What is a Clean Truck Check?

Starting in 2025, California requires all non-gasoline vehicles over 14,000 lbs GVWR — including commercial diesel trucks and diesel motorhomes — to pass a periodic emissions test called a Clean Truck Check. If you received a DMV notice saying "incomplete renewal" or your vehicle shows as non-compliant, this is the test you need.

A CARB-credentialed tester connects to your vehicle's OBD port, reads the emissions data, and submits the results directly to the state. If you pass, your registration goes through. If you don't comply, you could face registration holds and late fees.

Not sure if your vehicle needs one? Call or text us — we're happy to help you figure it out, no obligation.

Pre-Check Protection Promise

✅ Never waste $110 on a failed test

Unlike most providers, every appointment includes a readiness pre-check before we submit the official test. If your vehicle isn't ready to pass, we skip the test and you only pay $70 for the pre-check — saving you $40 and avoiding the 30-day retest waiting period.

  • Pre-check first, every time — we verify readiness before submitting
  • Only $70 if you don't pass — you skip the $110 test fee and just pay for the pre-check
  • No 30-day retest penalty — because we catch problems before they're on record
  • Come back after repairs — $70 follow-up visit for a new pre-check + test if repairs are successful

You only pay full price when you're ready to pass.

How it works

  1. Use the blue Book link above and provide your vehicle/location details when asked.
  2. I arrive on-site, we start the vehicle and let it warm up, and run a quick readiness pre-check that provides a report on whether or not you'll pass.
  3. If ready, we run the official test and submit results to the CTC-VIS site digitally.
  4. You receive proof of submission on the CTC-VIS site within the hour and I provide a receipt.

Tip: A lit check‑engine light, active emissions DM faults, or incomplete readiness monitors can prevent a passing result.

Diesel RV Owners

Mobile CARB testing built for RV owners who hate driving to truck shops

Most Clean Truck Check providers focus on commercial fleets. We started this business because we're an RV owner — and we know what a pain it is to pack up, drive a 40-foot motorhome to a truck repair shop, and sit in a parking lot waiting.

We come to your RV park, storage lot, or driveway. No moving your rig. No disrupting your setup. No hassle.

🏕️ RV parks & resorts 📦 Storage facilities 🏠 Your driveway 📅 Annual testing reminders

Diesel motorhomes (2013+, 14,000+ GVWR) require an annual Clean Truck Check. We'll help you stay compliant without the headache.

FAQ

Do you do repairs?

No, OBD testing only. If the vehicle has emissions-related diagnostic monitor (DM) faults, you’ll need repairs/service completed before retesting. The advantage of doing the pre-check first is if you have any emissions issue, you can get them fixed and not be subject to the 30 day retest requirement had you submitted an official test that failed.

Where do you operate?

Presently San Diego within 30 miles of ZIP 92109. For trips beyond 30 miles, an additional $1/mile charge applies. When booking, you'll provide the address and I’ll confirm total mileage.

What do I need on-site?

Keys available so you can start the engine, safe parking, and access to the OBD port. The OBD port is a round black or green 9 pin port or a rectangular 16 pin port - usually in driver area or engine bay. If you have a DMV or CTC-VIS notice, have it handy.

Do you perform testing on 2012 or older vehicles?

Unfortunately, we only do Clean Truck Checks on diesel and diesel-hybrid vehicles 2013 and newer or 2018 and newer alternative fuel engine vehicles - both GVWR 14000+, via the OBD.

How early can I submit a test result before the due date?

90 days in advance.

How often is this test required?

For most in-scope vehicles, testing is semi-annually (twice yearly). For agriculture vehicles and diesel RV motorhomes, testing is annually. Failure to comply may result in registration holds and late fees.

What device do you use?

We use the HEM Data DAWN OBD Inspector: https://hemdata.com/products/dawn/dawn-inspector/

Contact

Chris Millet CARB Clean Truck Check LLC

I'm a full time RVer from California since 2019 who had to get his own RV tested for the first time in 2025. I'm also the owner of two cats so it was a huge PITA to take my RV to a truck shop, sit in the car with the cats, and get the Clean Truck Check test done. I went ahead and got credentialed and bought a certified OBD tester so I can perform the test myself each year. Now I'm hoping to be able to help other diesel vehicle owners too!
